The Finlay Bedroom Suite - An Australian Design First

At Bev Marks we are extremely proud of our Australian Made focus, and in 2009 we launched an Australian design first, a project that bought together the skills of Homesglen TAFE, Australian Designer Michelle Pataki, Silver Lynx Furniture and Bev Marks, to collaborate in creating a new bedroom suite, the Finlay Suite. This project was extremely significant for two reasons.

Firstly, it was the pilot program for the TAFE College’s Furnishing Industry Design and Innovation Centre, allowing it to be involved in a 'real world' project. The educational benefits of a program like this are invaluable, because students are relating to course material based on a real world application, not just text book theory.

Secondly, this was the first time a TAFE College, designer, manufacturer and retailer have collaborated together to produce commercial furniture in Australia. The prototypes for the design were made in the Homesglen workshops and the final prototype was put into production by Silver Lynx. We were absolutely thrilled to be able to create such an invaluable initiative that will help develop the next generation of furniture craftsmen and designers in Australia.
