The company has been involved in rubber manufacturing and research since 1910 and have been manufacturing spread and molded latex products in Christchurch for over 65 years.
The raw latex comes from rubber tree plantations. The latex is extracted using an environmentally ‘soft’ process of cutting the bark and collecting the trees sap in small cups. Rubber tree plantations are carefully maintained and renewed whenever necessary, thereby preserving and restoring significant forest areas essential to the conservation of earth’s biosphere.
Raw latex is milky white liquid composed of rubber particles dispersed in water. The latex is whipped with air and then is poured into moulds. The moulds are passed through a steam tunnel and heated to 115 degrees Centigrade. The rubber blocks are then stripped from the moulds and go through a washing and drying process. Finally the block undergoes a distressing process to ensure optimum comfort and resilience.
Throughout the whole process, tests are continually carried out to ensure that every block of latex rubber is made to the correct specifications.
