Now your little ones aren't so little, but their rooms can still be fun. At this age the kids are old enough to be helpful, so let them help create their own masterpiece room. Remember to be creative, and compromise on what they like.
As your daughter grows older, a large area for a desk and hutch (and eventually a computer) is essential as books become an integral part of the room's plan. For this is where homework, and also all the many projects involved with it, will be tackled in the years ahead.
In the early teen years storage space (for clothes, sports equipment and collections) becomes key. Very few kids are naturally neat at this age and the more hampers for clothes and chests your daughter has the easier it will be on both of you.
Your daughter will want to have lots of sleepovers and if you need that extra bed, kids adore bunks. Bunk beds have undergone rigorous legislation in recent years, and all Bev Marks bunks are in compliance with safety laws and industry standards. Another great idea is a low-profile trundle bed, that will store away needly under the main bed when not in use.
Remember, it will have been 10 years from purchasing her first mattress, so now is the time to go shopping for a new one.
Change her cosy reading nook into a place her and her girlfriends can hang out and listen to music. Her taste in things will change every week at this stage so you are best to go for function rather than form; appropriate bed, desk for studying, a chill out zone and maybe a giant corkboard for all those teenage posters.
A vibrant quilt cover would be a fantastic way to brighten up the room, and is an easy and cheap way for you daughter to express her individuality.
